Abstracts
Le site moustérien de Staroselie (Crimée, Ukraine) est connu dans le monde occidental pour avoir livré une occupation moustérienne tardive associée à des restes humains montrant des traits « transitionnels » entre Néandertaliens et Homo sapiens. De nouvelles fouilles remettent en question les résultats des fouilles anciennes, surtout en ce qui concerne ces restes humains. Cet article tente de donner un nouveau point de vue sur le contexte de leur découverte et sur leur signification, encore souvent mal interprétées dans les publications récentes.
The Mousterian site of Starosele (Crimea, Ukraine) is well known by western archaeologists for the skeletal remains discovered there in 1953, said to have physical characteristics transitional between Neandertals and Homo sapiens, and to be associated with a late Mousterian occupation. New excavations raise the actual results of the original investigations, especially those concerning the human remains. This article sheds new light on the context of their discovery and significance, both of which continue to be misinterpreted in recent publications concerning the site.
